Hoh Xil Nature Reserve
Hoh Xil (also called Kekexili in Chinese) means the “beautiful young woman or blue mountain” in the Mongolian language. Kekexili Nature Reserve in Qinghai Province is only a part of the Kekexili area. Established in 1995, Kekexili Nature Reserve is one of China’s largest nature reserves, covering 45,000 square kilometers. It was established to protect the unique plants, mammals, and birds and their habitats. In 2017, Hoh Xil was included in the World Nature Heritage Site by UNESCO.
